This unidentified newspaper article, dated March 5,1954, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    CLASSMATES AND LIFEMATES

Hamlet Taylor and Luella Wheeler were classmates at the Bruce school on what is now Route 2, a mile west of Lowell. Luella's father, William Wheeler, came from England to settle the farm now owned by Merritt Metz. The first place to the north, where Hamlet and Luella have farmed for 57 years, was then owned by Daniel Strong, Hamlet's grandfather. Hamlet was born in Crown Point and went at the age of 12 to live with Grandfather Strong.

The Taylors were married 57 years ago on February 24 at Lowell by Elder John Bruce. Hamlet will have his 79th birthday March 19. Their land is being farmed by son Harvey, Wyandotte chicken breeder on Route 41, ever since Hamlet's retirement. Son Leo lives in Chicago, Forest at Medford, Wisconsin, Milford at Cedar Lake. The Taylor's daughter Esther, Mrs. Bert Bruce, lives a mile to the north of the homeplace; Helen, Mrs. Earl Alexander, is at Cedar Lake and Carey, Mrs. Jack Hansel, in China. The admirable couple's proudest possessions also include 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
