Hattie C. Furth King (1885-1954)
(Mrs. Clyde King)

The following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

Funeral Rites Today for Mrs. Hattie King

Mrs. Hattie C. King, 69, passed Sunday night, Nov. 14, at Shady Heights Nursing Home at Dyer, where she had been a patient for several weeks. Mrs. King had been in ill health for almost two years.

Born in Germany, October 16, 1885, Hattie came to Chicago with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Furth, when she was three years old, and resided there until her marriage to Clyde King.

Clyde and Hattie were very successful Lowell business people for many years, until Mr. King's death several years ago.

The couple operated a photographic studio here, both being skilled at portrait work. Later they opened a grocery and meat market.

Mrs. King worked with her husband through the years, and was very well known. She was "Granny" to all the children and "Hattie" to all the adults.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. W.R. (Helen) Weaver of Lowell and Mrs. Marshall (Juanita) Keithley of Ann Arbor, Michigan; also six grandchildren, and several great grandchildren, besides a host of area friends.

The Rev. Edward M. Boney, pastor of St. Edward's church and long time friend of Mrs. King, will officiate at funeral services held today, Thursday, November 18, at 2 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home. Interment will be made in the Sanders cemetery.
