The following June 29, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:

    Receives Promotion

    Mr. and Mrs. Fred Snell have received word that their son, Cpl. Henry Snell, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sgt. Snell has served overseas the past 18 months. His wife and daughter Joan, of Collinsville, Ill. are here visiting her husband's parents. Sgt. Snell has never seen his daughter, who is now 16 months old.

This Lowell Tribune article was found in the October 18, 1945, issue (page 6, column 2):
    After spending three years in the South Pacific, Sgt. Henry Snell was welcomed by family members at the home of his parents, the Fred Snells, last Saturday. A most enjoyable day was spent by the family. Henry is looking forward to a discharge from the service soon.
