Henry Voltmer (1824-1908)
- The death of Henry Voltmer occurred at about 6 o'clock. Monday evening, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Selk, on Indiana street, of pneumonia, aged 84 years, 5 months and 13 days. The duration of illness covered a period of but one week.
Deceased was born August 2, 1824, at Nauhagen, Hanover, Germany, where he was schooled and reared to manhood. He came to America in 1848, taking up his abode at West Chicago, and worked at the carpenter trade. He was married November 24, 1850, to Mary Rabe at West Chicago, to which union eight children were born, of whom one son died at the age of seven years. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Voltmer moved to Monee, Will county, where they resided until 1865, when they moved to a farm near Sollitt. In 1881 they moved to West Creek township, Lake county, Indiana. . . . [The article is cut off at this point.]
