Herman V. "Herm" Purdy

The following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    Herman Purdy, 73, Lowell Native, Dies

    Herman V. Purdy, 73, a resident of Hammond, passed away at St. Margaret's hospital in Hammond on July 4.

    Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Howell Purdy of Lowell, Herman was born and reared here on Mill Street. "Herm" was a popular young man. A member of Lowell's "famed" baseball team. He also played the coronet with the town band which staged weekly concerts 50 years ago.

    He is survived by his wife, the former Cora Fuller, also of Lowell; two daughters, Mrs. True Hastings of Calumet City, Mrs. Faith Knott of Hammond, and four grandchildren.

    Rev. Jasper Cox officiated at services held July 6, at the Huber Funeral Home in Hammond and burial was in Elmwood cemetery.
