Irene A. Beckman Ross (born 1916)
- A letter from Ensign Irene Beckman to her parents tells of a wonderful and interesting trip to the main island of Hawaii and the city of Hilo and also some of the other islands of interest. She also had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Pinkerton, formerly of Lowell, and greeting her past chief nurse from Great Lakes, who just arrived at Pearl harbor to take up duties there.
The following article was found in the April 29, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 2, column 3:
- Ensign Irene Beckman arrived home Tuesday from her duties as an army nurse at Pearl Harbor, T. H. She will spend the next week here with her parents, the B. T. Beckmans, and her brothers and sister. A registered nurse, Miss Irene has been with the U. S. forces in the Islands for over a year.
This May 6, 1943, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 5:
ENSIGN IRENE BECKMAN RETURNS TO PEARL HARBOR
After a ten day visit here with her parents, the B.T. Beckmans, and her brothers and sisters, Ensign Irene Beckman left last night by plane for the west coast, where she will return to her post as a nurse in the navy hospital at Pearl Harbor, T. H.A family gathering was given in her honor at the home of her sister, Mrs. Ralph Geisen, and family, at Crown Point, Sunday.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the January 6, 1944, issue (page 2, column 2):
- Ensign Irene A. Beckman arrived home from Pearl Harbor on a month furlough which she will spend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.T. Beckman. At the conclusion of her furlough she will be stationed at Long Beach, Calif.
This January 27, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- After a pleasant furlough home, Ensign Irene A. Beckman left Saturday to resume her duties at the U.S. naval hospital at Long Beach, Calif.
The following May 18, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
Transferred to Klamath, Falls, Ore.
Lt. (j.g.) Irene A. Beckman, N.N.C. has been moved from Long Beach, Calif., to the U.S. naval air dispensary at Klamath Falls, Ore., where she will be in charge as Chief Nurse.This July 20, 1944, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 4, column 1:
Arrived Home Monday
Lt. (j.g.) Irene Beckman arrived home Monday, July 16, from the naval air station at Klamath Falls, Ore., to spend a vacation with her parents: Mr. and Mrs. B.T. Beckman. Next Monday, Mrs. Beckman and daughter will go to Virginia to visit their sons and brothers, Bernard and Vincent Beckman.The following December 28, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- A happy home-coming was enjoyed at the home of the B.T. Beckmans Sunday when all their children and families, including Lt. B.J. Beckman and Sgt. Vincent Beckman, in the service, were able to be present. Miss Irene Beckman of Cedar Falls, Iowa, was also present. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Bailey, old friends of the family. A sumptious turkey dinner with all the trimmings was served to the forty-five present.
