J. Guy Nichols
COMMUNITY SADDENED
A man whom both communities hold dear as a good citizen and friend is lost to Crown Point and Lowell in the passing of J. Guy Nichols. His death came early Wednesday in Mercy hospital, where he entered for brain surgery January 8.Born in Lowell 63 years ago, he had lived in Crown Point more than 30 years and during that time worked as a repair man for Crown Point Telephone Company, now a part of the Illinois Bell system. He received his 30-year pin about six months ago.
Surviving with his wife, Ella Binyon Nichols of 166 North West Street are two sons and two daughters, Lewis and Richard of Crown Point, Mrs. John Larson of Crown Point and Mrs. Kay Schafer of Valparaiso.
Six grandchildren and a great grandchild, infant daughter of the Donald Larsons, whom he had not yet seen, also survive with a brother, Bert of Cedar Lake, and two sisters, Mrs. Noah Lamore of Grant Park, Illinois and Mrs. Fern Tuthill* of Lowell.
A deacon of First Christian church, Guy was a member of the Hammond council of Telephone Pioneers, a national organization, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Dean S. Jacoby, minister of First Christian church, will conduct services there at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon before burial is made in Lowell cemetery. Callers may come to Merriam's funeral home until 11 0'clcok Saturday morning.
