James C. Watt
- After spending 15 days with her parents, the L.M. Bieseckers, Ensign and Mrs. James Watt have gone to Portsmouth, Va., where he will await further orders. He was previously stationed in Florida.
This September 28, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 4:
CEDAR LAKE MAN COMMANDS SHIP
LT. (j.g.) JAMES WATT IN CHARGE OF VESSEL CHRISTENED SATURDAY
Saturday, Sept. 23rd was a day long to be remembered by Lt. (j.g.) James C. Watt of Cedar Lake, the occasion being the christening of the U.S.S. LSM-323 at Navy Pier, Chicago, on which he went aboard as Commanding Officer. The new ship carries a crew of five officers, 12 Petty Officers and 36 men.Following the dedication program the guests were given an invitation to inspect the vessel, a privilege thoroughly enjoyed because many of the spectators had never been aboard a ship.
Lt. Watt, well known here, enlisted in the navy early in 1943, and was commissioned as Lt. (j.g.) last fall.
Attending the ceremonies from Cedar Lake and Lowell: Lt. and Mrs. James Watt, their parents, Rev. and Mrs. James Watt and Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Biesecker, all of Cedar Lake; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Brannock, and her uncle, Robert Brannock, and wife, of Lowell.
The following June 7, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- Born, to Lt. and Mrs. James Watt, June 26th, a daughter. Mrs. Watt is the former Jane Biesecker, daughter of the L.M. Bieseckers of Cedar Lake, and is a granddaughter of the James Brannocks of Lowell.
