The following August 31, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 2:

    JOHN ECHTERLINGS TO HOLD OPEN HOUSE SUNDAY

    Open house will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Echterling on Sunday, Sept. 3rd, during the afternoon and evening, in honor of their son, M/Sgt. James Echterling, who has just returned home after spending 31 months with the U.S. Forces on Adak Island in the Aleutians. Friends are invited to call.
In another article in the same issue of the paper (page 2, column 1), the following information appeared:

    Home from Overseas

    M/Sgt. James Echterling, who spent the past 31 months with the U.S. forces in the Asiatic-Pacific theater of operations, arrived home Sunday for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Echterling.

The following Sept. 14, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5 column 4:

    JAMES ECHTERLING AND JANE FAIRCHILD WED

    A very impressive wedding took place last Saturday morning, Sept. 9, at St. Ignatius church, Chicago, when Charlotte Jane Fairchild of Chicago and Cedar Lake, became the bride of Master Sergeant James E. Echterling of Lowell.

    The Rev. Lanen of S.J. officiated at the nuptial Mass.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father and was attended by Evelyn Echterling and Ethel Schutz as bridesmaids. The groom was attended by his brother Jerome and Frank Wachter, Jr.

    The bride wore white georgette crepe with gold sequin trimming and carried a shower bouquet of white roses.

    The bridesmaids wore aqua marine and orchid georgette and carried colonial bouquets of matching flowers.

    After the nuptial a reception for sixty guests was held at the home of the bride's parents.

    Miss Fairchild attended Immaculate high school and the Chicago Conservatory of Music and Drama. M/Sgt. Echterling is a graduate of Lowell high school.
