A copy of the following newspaper article, hand-identified as being from the March 4, 1954, Tribune, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    URVIE SPINDLER, 82, DIES OF HEART ATTACK; RITES AT SHEETS CHAPEL

    James Urvie Spindler, 82, prominent resident of the Cedar Lake-Lowell community, died very suddenly of a heart attack on March 3rd at his winter home in Sanford, Fla.

    He is the father of Henry Spindler, who with Alvah Pletcher, owns the Pletcher - Spindler store on Commercial Ave. His brother, John, was once a Lowell business man and with the father of Alvah Pletcher, operated the successful Spindler - Pletcher general merchandise store.

    Survivors include four sons, Raymond of Hebron, David of Chicago, Dr. Robert of Shelbyville, Henry of Cedar Lake; and three daughters, Mrs. Helen Simmons of Chicago, Mrs. Mildred Davis of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Ruby Brannon of Cedar Lake, who is teacher at Cedar Lake School for Exceptional children.

    Memorial services will be held at the Sheets funeral home Sunday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Lowell cemetery.
