The following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

Jerry Lee Staff, A.A., serving with the Navy, came home from San Diego, Calif., to spend the holidays. His mother, Mrs. Ward Blanchard of Porter, entertained at a family dinner in his honor Sunday. He left from Chicago on Monday for a new base. Address: Jerry Lee Staff, A.A., USS Shangri La, Naval Ship Yard, Brementon, Washington.
