- Died Very Suddenly
John Brown died very suddenly at his home in the south part of town last Wednesday afternoon. He had been in his usual health. He was taken sick and had passed away before medical aid reached him. His death was caused by heart failure. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Friday. Interment in Lowell cemetery in charge of Undertaker Weaver. Obituary next week.
This August 26, 1920, Lowell Tribune obituary was found on page 1, column 5:
- John Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Brown, was born in Uniontown Kentucky, December 1, 1861. In the year 1907 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Schuk and to this union seven daughters were born. With his family he has resided in Lowell for several years, and it was at his home here he departed this life August 11, 1920, at the age of 58 years, 8 months and 10 days. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and daughters -- Fay, Mabel, Ruth, Pauline, Annabel, Mary Ella, and Mrs. Mabel Selfurn of Shelbyville, Kentucky. One thing might well be remembered by his fellowmen -- his sunny disposition. Whether the day was bright or gloomy, whether it brought joy or sadness, John Brown saw the silver lining through every dark cloud, and he was known as Whistling John Brown.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church, Friday, August 13. Rev. Harry Hamilton preached the funeral sermon. Interment was made in [the] Lowell cemetery in charge of Undertaker Weaver. Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Mrs. Mabel Selfurn, Shelbyville, Ky., Chas Epley and Mr. and Mrs. G. Record, of Indianapolis, Richard Todd, Brookburg, Ind.
