John F. "Johnny" Buckley (born (1917)
The following article was found in the April 29, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 2, column 2:
- John Buckley, who enlisted in the Seabees recently, has been transferred to the naval base at Williamsburg, Va., according to a letter to his wife, Monday. John says the life of a Seabee is not exactly a bed of roses -- that beside knowing the carpenter trade and few others, they take training similar to Marines and Commandos, which accounts for the fact that they are one of the best trained fighting units in the service.
This February 24, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
- Mrs. John Buckley has received a letter from her hasband, S 1/c John Buckley, that he has been transferred to "somewhere in England" for a short time. He was O.K. when he wrote.
The following November 2, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 2:
Home on Furlough
John Buckley S 2/c, who has been overseas for over a year, arrived home on furlough for a visit with his wife and his mother, Mrs. Jennie Buckley. His wife has been visiting her mother in South Dakota and John has gone there to accompany her home.The following December 28, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5 column 3:
- Mrs. John Buckley is visiting her husband, John Buckley, S 1/c, who is stationed at Camp Hueneme, near Oxnard, Calif.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 15, 1945, issue (page 2, column 1):
- Johnny Buckley, S 1/c, who is now stationed at Port Hueneme, writes:
- "Just a note to give you my newest address so you can keep the Tribune coming. Myrtle and I are living in Santa Monica and it sure is nice here. Don't know exactly how long I will be stationed here, but hope it is for the duration.
- "We sure enjoy the Tribune, and send out best wishes to everyone.
- Johnny"
This November 22, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Mrs. Jennie Buckley has received word from her son, John, who has been stationed in California since his return from overseas, that he had been discharged from the service, and accompanied by his wife, would be home for Thanksgiving.
This December 6, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 6:
- After receiving his discharge from the navy, John Buckley and wife arrived home from California last Wednesday night.
