The following April 24, 1969, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, columns 3-4:

    ROTC Instructor At Lowell

    Roger W. Sturm, Superintendent of Tri-Creek Schools, has announced that Lt. Col. John F. McHugh, a 29 year veteran of the Army, Coast Guard and Air Force, retiring July 31, 1969, will serve as AFJROTC Instructor, at Lowell High School.

    A master navigator, he served with the 8th Air in England during World War II and with the 20th Air Force at Okinawa during the Korean War.

    Assigned to the Strategic Air Command since 1947, he has spent the past four years at Ellsworth A.F.B., South Dakota, where he is presently the Director of Personnel.

    He will be coming to Lowell in August with his wife, Betty, a native of Cicero, Indiana, and his son Tom 16, and daughter Terry 14.

    94 boys have signed up for the AFJROTC Unit.
