The following March 20, 1969, Lowell Tribune article was found in the Lowell Public Library local history clipping files (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 5, page 74):

    John Hartwich Echo Inn Owner Dies

    John Hartwich, 53, of Schneider, died Monday, March 17th, at the Veterans Research Hospital in Chicago. He had been a patient there for two weeks.

    He is survived by his wife Alice and two children, Joe and Cheri, both at home.

    Born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 28, 1915, he was married to the former Alice Baker of Schneider in 1947.

    Having lived in Schneider in the same house for 43 years, John was well known in the community and was the owner and operator of the Echo Inn in Schneider.

    He had served his country in the European Theatre from September 1942 to January of 1946. John was a member of the Schneider Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years, a member of the Lowell American Legion Post 101 and a member of Lowell VFW.

    Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 19th, at 3 p.m. in Lowell with the Rev. Glen Ramsey officiating. Graveside military services were held by the American Legion at Sanders Cemetery.
