This Lowell Tribune article was found in the January 25, 1945, issue (page 2, column 1):
    Two former schoolmates, Cpl. John Callahan of Lowell, and Pfc. Ralph Schafer of Cook, enjoyed a good visit recently when they met in the Philippines. Writing their parents, the boys said they certainly enjoyed seeing each other. Both soldiers were getting along fine when the letters were written.

This Lowell Tribune article was found in the January 24, 1946 issue (page 2, columns 1-2):
    T/Sgt. John Callahan, Jr., has received his discharge from the army and is now at home here. He served with the forces in the Phillipines, Luzon, Leyte, and was in Japan when he began his homeward journey. He brought a number of souvenirs of his travels home with him.
