Pvt. John Amey Home Last Week
Pvt. John Amey, in the field artillery at Camp Carrabelle, Fla., was home last week on furlough, and spent several enjoyable days visiting relatives and friends.The following May 3, 1995, Lowell Tribune obituary was found in the Lowell Public Library local history files (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 5, page 69):
- John S. Amey, age 80, of Crown Point, passed away Sun., May 21, 1995. He is survived by: his wife, Laureva Amey; one son, Andy (Jenny) Amey of Terre Haute; one sister, Esther Gowland of Valparaiso; and two nephews. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 24 at Range Line Presbyterian Church in Hebron, with Pastor Doug Burnford officiating. Burial followed at Lowell Memorial Cemetery in Lowell. Visitation was held from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. May 23 at Sheets Funeral Home, Lowell. John Amey was a World War II military veteran, served as Eagle Creek Twp. trustee for eight years, and helped found the Lowell Little League. He was a member of Range Line Presbyterian Church in Hebron, a member and past master of Colfax Lodge F and A.M. No. 378, a former member and past master of the Order of Eastern Star in Lowell, and a former member of Indian Trail Grange in Lowell.
