The following article was found in the March 18, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 1, column 5:

    WOUNDED IN ACTION IN NORTH AFRICAN BATTLE

    Mrs. Thersa Wagner, living with her family on State Road 2, west of town, has received word from the war department that her brother, John Sirovy, was wounded during the fighting in North Africa on Feb. 1st.

    The message from the government stated that he was recovering and expected to soon be back at the front with his infantry regiment.

    Sirovy is a graduate of Knox high school and enlisted in the army on October 27, 1941. His outfit was among the first American soldiers to land on the North African front.
