Joseph E. "Joe" Wallace

The following August 24, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 7, column 2:

    Awarded Good Conduct Medal

    Headquarters, Panama Canal Department -- In recognition of more than one year of active military service marked by "Exemplary behavior, efficiency and fidelity," the good conduct medal has been award to Pfc. Joseph E. Wallace of Lowell, according to an announcement by the Panama Coast Artillery Command recently.

    Pfc. Wallace was cited for "fidelity through faithful and exact performance of duty, efficiency through capacity to produce desired results and behavior such as to deserve emulation."

    Cannoneer in an anti-aircraft artillery gun battery of Col. William H. Sweet's harbor defense organization, Pfc. Wallace has served with the Coast Artillery forces here since Dec. 9, 1943.

    His brother, William Wallace, is a seaman first class in the navy and his sister, Mrs. Arthur Hilzley, resides in Lowell.
