The following June 8, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:

    JOSEPH KUBISH, CEDAR LAKE, DIES FROM EFFECTS OF BURNS

    Joseph Kubish, 65, who lived alone in a small cottage on the east side of Cedar Lake, was severely burned when fire broke out in the cottage last Thursday morning, following explosion of an oil stove. He suffered severe third degree burns and was taken immediately to Gary Methodist hospital for treatment.

    The Crown Point fire department was called but the blaze had gained such headway, the building was completely burned.

    After being in a serious condition the past week, Mr. Kubish passed away at the hospital Tuesday night. Funeral services will be held at the Geisen funeral home in Crown Point, Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will be made at Crown Point.

    The aged man, a brother of Mrs. Henry Carstens of Lake Dalecarlia, had lived at the lake for many years and was well known over the southern part of the county.

    He leaves three sisters, Mrs. Alfred Taylor and Mrs. Charles Taylor, of Cedar Lake, and Mrs. Henry Carstens of Lake Dalecarlia.
