Joseph M. "Joe" Eich
- Miss Helen Eich spent last Wednesday at the home of her parents, the Joe Eichs, at Turkey Creek, attending a farewell party for her brother, Joe Jr., before he left for army service.
An Oct. 19, 1944, Lowell Tribune article about his brother Paul listed Joseph Eich as being in the last lap of his training as a pilot of a B-24 Liberator bomber at Danis-Montham Field in Tucson, Arizona.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the May 3, 1945, issue (page 6, column 4):
- Lt. Joseph M. Eich, 23, of Crown Point, formerly of Lowell, has arrived at Army Air Forces redistribution station No. 2, Miami Beach, for reassignment processing after completing a tour of duty outside the continental United States.
- Medical examinations and classification interviews at this post, pioneer of several redistribution stations operated by the AAF Personnel Distribution Command for AAF returnee officers and enlisted men, will determine his new assignment. He will remain at the redistribution station about two weeks, much of which will be devoted to rest and recreation.
- Lieut. Eich flew three missions as a B-24 pilot in the European theater, winning the Air Medal. He is the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Eich of route 2, Crown Point.
