Keith Ruble Honored At Family Dinner
A dinner was held at the home of Mrs. Sheila Henry on Sunday, April 18, in honor of a nephew, Keith Ruble, who left for Ft. Benjamin Harrison the following morning.The tables were beautifully decorated in red, white and blue, with some thirty people to enjoy the pot luck dinner at noon. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Ross Ruble, Bob, David, and the honor-guest, Keith, of Crown Point; Mr. and Mrs. Horace Ruble, daughters Phyllis and Doris, and Norman Wilmington of Kniman; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ruble, Patty, Charles, Roland and Kay of Griffith; Mr. and Mrs. Byron Ruble, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Johnson, Kenney, Joyce, and Jimmy, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Worley, Dorothy Mae and Norma Lee, Mrs. Sheila Henry, Sherard, Jr., and Dean, all of Lowell.
Keith was presented many useful gifts and as an added surprise, Mr. and Mrs. Ruble, not thinking that their children remembered their 46th wedding anniversary which fell on that day, were presented with a bouquet of red roses.
The afternoon was spent visiting and taking pictures.

In Hospital in England
Word has been received by the Ruble family from Pfc. Keith Ruble, son of the Horace Rubles, that he is confined in a hospital in England. He was in the invasion of France, but failed to state whether he was wounded or was in the hospital for a rest.The following April 19, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
Pfc. Keith Ruble Now in Kansas Army Hospital
Pfc. Keith M. Ruble, son of the Ross Rubles, who recently returned from overseas service, is now in a hospital in Kansas, where he is recovering from wounds received in action.Keith has been in the service since April, 1943, receiving his basic training with the infantry at Camp Shelby, Miss. He was sent overseas in June, 1944, and was wounded in action in France. After being hospitalized in France for a time he was sent to England and then back to the United States. He expects to be sent home sometime in the near future.
As a reward for the part he played in the drive toward Germany, Pfc. Ruble has been awarded the Purple Heart, three Stars for participation in three major battles, a Good Conduct Medal, and a pin for bravery.
The following May 10, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
Received Disability Discharge
Pfc. Keith Ruble, son of Ross Ruble of near Crown Point, and a grandson of the Byron Rubles, Lowell, has received a disability discharge from the army, and has arrived home from Winter hospital at Topeka, Kansas. In service for two years, he wears three bronze stars, tokens of participation in the Normandy, Northern France and German campaigns.Return to Lowell Biographies.
