Receives Letter from Son
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hill, Schneider, have received several letters from their son, Kenneth, this week. He writes that he is getting along fine and is now "somewhere in the South Pacific."A Sept. 21, 1944, Lowell Tribune article on page 2 column 1 mentioned that Kenneth Hill was home after spending the last seven months in the South Pacific. He had been in three invasions and was going back to duty on the 25th. Another article in column 4 of the same page added the following:
- A family dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hill on Sept. 17th honored both Kenneth and Glenn Hill, home on leave from the Navy and Army, respectively. Also present for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hill and daughter, Gloria, of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Myers and daughter, Betty, of Schneider, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wilmington and daughter, Rosa Irene, of Lake Village, and Miss Elsie Forberger, and the boys' sisters, Mary Eileen, Laura Lea and Jean.
This May 8, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Word was received by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hill last week of the promotion of their son, Kenneth D. Hill to S 3/c Radar Man.
- When their other son, Glenn R. Hill was last heard from, he had just been promoted to 2nd Lieut. He was with Patton's Third Army.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the January 24, 1946, issue (page 7, column 3):
- A dinner party in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hill honored Kenneth Hill and his wife on Sunday, Jan. 20th. Attending from Chicago were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hill and daughter, Mr.and Mrs. Elmer Wilmington and children of Lake Village. A beautiful wedding cake with bride and sailor groom atop was presented the young couple. Kenneth received his discharge from the navy in November after two years service in the South Pacific.
