An excerpt from the July 26, 1917, issue of the Lowell Tribune (page 8, column 4) explains:
- Below will be found the names of every man in Cedar Creek, West Creek, Eagle Creek and Hanover townships who was drafted for the army last Friday. At the left of the name will be found the serial number of every drafted man and at the right of the name will be found the number which shows the place he occupies in the draft list.
This article was found in the Lowell Tribune, Dec. 5, 1984, (and also found in the Local History Files at the Lowell Public Library--LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 1, page 19):
- Leon "Doc" L. Bailey, age 92, of Lowell, passed away Tues., Nov. 27, 1984. He is survived by: one daughter, Helen (Ray) McIntire of Lowell; three grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern, in April, 1980. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Nov. 29 from the Sheets-Love Funeral Home, with pastor Brian Ogle officiating. Burial followed at West Creek Cemetery in Lowell. Leon Bailey was a military veteran of World War I, past commander of American Legion Post #101 of Lowell, and a former member of the A.A.A. Committee. He was also a past director of the Lowell National Bank and past chair of the West Creek Conservancy District. He was active in the Lake County Soil Conservation Service.
