The following unidentified newspaper article comes from a family history, compiled by Ernest J. Fredregill, entitled An Old Album of Interest to Ritters, Livingstons, Hilzleys and Islers:
    Leonard Hilzley Sr., 87, passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, at Gary Mercy hospital where he had been confined since Jan. 16 when he suffered a fractured hip in a fall at his home, 240 West Main. Mr. Hilzley was born at Cook, Sept. 3, 1871, and resided in South Lake county all of his lifetime. Most of his years were spent in Lowell. He married Emma Livingston and the couple farmed just south of Lowell until he retired and they moved in town. Survivors include his wife, Emma, two daughters, Mrs. Martha Westberg and Mrs. Dora Price; three sons, Harry and Leonard of Lowell, and Arthur of Crown Point; several grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Rev. Allen Meredith, Pastor of the Lowell Church of Christ, officiated at [a] memorial service conducted in the Eskridge Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 28. Burial was in the Lowell cemetery.
