Training at Great Lakes
Lester B. Hatcher, 26, husband of Clara R. Hatcher, Lowell, is receiving his initial naval indoctrination at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.His "boot" training consists of instruction in seamanship, military drill, and general naval procedure. His recruit training completed, the seaman will spend a period of leave at home.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the July 5, 1945, issue (page 4, column 2):
- Lester Hatcher, S 1/c, writing the Tribune to continue sending his paper, said he enjoyed reading about the folks back home, and especially enjoyed the news of other service men. Continuing in the same line as when he was conducting the Lowell shoe repair, he is working in a ship's cobbler shop, somewhere in the Pacific.
