A Jan. 14, 1943, Lowell Tribune article (page 1, column 2) about Harold M. Heuson going into the service also lists Lester G. Steuer as leaving for the induction center at Ft. Benjamin Harrison.

A January 21, 1943, Lowell Tribune article (page 2, column 1) stated that Lester G. Steuer was sent to Camp McCain, Mississippi, for basic training.


The following article from an unknown source can be found in the Local History Files at Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 2, page 61):

    Lester G. Steuer, age 68, of Lowell, passed away Sun., Feb. 10, 1991. He is survived by his wife, Ila Steuer; one daughter, Peggy (Lloyd) White of Lowell; one son, Mike (Fran) Steuer of New Concord, Ky.; three grandchildren, David and Dawn White, both at home, and April Steuer of Texas; three step-grandchildren, Kenny, Kevin and Matt Russell of Ft. Wayne; one step great grandchild, Christopher Russell of Ft. Wayne; three brothers, Harvey (Dorothy) Steuer of Lake of the Four Seasons, Vernon (Edna) Steuer of Lowell and Virgil (Anita) Steuer of Lowell, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wed., Feb. 13, at Sheets Funeral Home, Lowell, with Pastor Charles Hochmuth officiating. Lester Steuer was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and operated the Orchard Grove Service Station for 27 years. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6841 in Lowell, and a past member of the Range Line Conservation Club. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1941. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Assn.
