L.E. BAILEY CALLED BY DEATH FRIDAY
FORMER RESIDENT OF WEST CREEK SUCCUMBS TO PNEUMONIA
Leroy E. Bailey, former County Treasurer, and for many years a resident of West Creel township, passed away at his home in Crown Point Friday night, following an attack of pneumonia which he contracted a week before.Mr. Bailey served as County Treasurer from 1904 to 1908 and was identified with the activities of the Republican party for a great many years until his retirement a few years ago.
Until he was elected County Treasurer he conducted a large farm in West Creek, which he still owned. He was an active member of the Knights of Pythias, and the Independent Order of Forresters.
Mr. Bailey was born in Yellowhead township, Kankakee county, Ill., January 9, 1858, and was just past 76 years of age at the time of his death.
His grandfather, John Bailey, was one of the pioneers of LaPorte county, and his father, Josiah Bailey, was a pioneer of Lake county.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. L.A. Love, and three sons, Merritt and Murray of Lowell, and Bennett, of Crown Point; one sister, Mrs. Fred Buse, of East Chicago, and one brother, George B. Bailey, of Lowell.
Funeral services were held at the home in Crown Point Sunday afternoon and were attended by people from all parts of the county. Burial was made in the West Creek cemetery in charge of Weaver & Son.
