Lewis Gerrish "Lew" Little (1861-1928)
MARRIED
On June 12, 1890, by Rev. J.F. Smith, assisted by Rev. H. Wason, Lewis G. Little and Miss Effie G. Kearney. June 12th dawned clear and fair and during its morning hours willing hands were busily employed in decorating with flowers the Lake Prairie church in tasteful and elegant manner for the wedding. But, as the appointed time, 2 p.m. approached, a little cloud appeared in the west and rapidly spread and soon deluged the earth and that portion of its inhabitants as were on the way to the church, and delayed many who had not yet left their homes. Nevertheless, as the rain ceased the guests, among whom were the families of all the scholars of the Lake Prairie Sabbath School, began to arrive in such rapid succession as to render the work of the ushers very difficult.Miss Kittie Gerrish presided at the organ and as the strains of the wedding march floated through the room, the bride, sweet and dainty, arrayed in a gown of cream white albatross tastefully trimmed with ribbon, a bouquet of white rose buds in her hand, and the groom dressed in a becoming suit of "store" clothes, proceeded slowly up the aisle and took their stations under the beautiful wedding bell, which was suspended from the ceiling, and the knot was soon tied.
As the newly married pair turned to face the audience, Miss Maggie Michael stepped forward and with a neat little speech presented to the groom a beautiful silver cake basket as a token of regard from the Sabbath school, of which he is Superintendent.
The young couple then departed to call upon the groom's parents, who, on account of sickness were unable to be present, and the audience was dismissed by the benediction.
After the service at the church a reception was given at Rev. J.F. Smith's to a few relatives and intimate friends. This proved an occasion of delightful social intercourse and a feast of the best things which culinary art can devise. One of its pleasantest features was, perhaps, the old time song with which two of the guests favored the company. The young couple were the recipients of numerous elegant and useful presents and of the best wishes of a multitude of friends. They will make their home for the present at the residence of Hon. J.A. Little.
