Seriously Injured in Germany
Louis Searle, Jr., son of the Louis Searles of Hebron, who formerly resided southeast of Lowell, was reported by the War Department to have been seriously wounded in Germany on Thanksgiving day, according to a telegram received by his parents. Louis, who attended St. Edward's grade school and the first semester of his freshman year at Lowell high before transferring to Hebron high school, has been in the medical corps nearly two years, and about two months ago was shipped overseas. He is a grandson of Mrs. George Searle.His friends and relatives in this community are hoping that news of his recovery will be forthcoming soon.

Recovering from Wounds
Pfc. Louis Searle, Jr., son of the Louis Searles, Hebron, and grandson of Mrs. George Searle, Lowell, wrote his parents this week that he is recovering from wounds received on Thanksgiving day. His job, as a member of a medical unit, was to give first aid to wounded soldiers on the battlefield, and it is presumed that this was what he was doing when a bullet from a sniper's rifle stuck him in the abdomen. A few days previous, he received four slight wounds from shrapnel. It is expected that he will be shipped back to this country as soon as he is able to be moved.The following May 31, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- A card from Pfc. Louis Searle, Jr. to his grandmother, Mrs. George Searle, says he is back in this country again, and is now at an army hospital at Jackson, Miss. Wounded in France last winter, Louis had been hospitalized first in France, then in England before being returned to the States.
