Recovering from Wounds
Pfc. Louis Searle, Jr., son of the Louis Searles, Hebron, and grandson of Mrs. George Searle, Lowell, wrote his parents this week that he is recovering from wounds received on Thanksgiving day. His job, as a member of a medical unit, was to give first aid to wounded soldiers on the battlefield, and it is presumed that this was what he was doing when a bullet from a sniper's rifle stuck him in the abdomen. A few days previous, he received four slight wounds from shrapnel. It is expected that he will be shipped back to this country as soon as he is able to be moved. The following May 31, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- A card from Pfc. Louis Searle, Jr. to his grandmother, Mrs. George Searle, says he is back in this country again, and is now at an army hospital at Jackson, Miss. Wounded in France last winter, Louis had been hospitalized first in France, then in England before being returned to the States.
