Margaret Ann Downs Maxwell (1834-1902)
(Mrs. George Maxwell)
- Margaret Ann Downs Maxwell was born September 14, 1834, in Franklin county, Ind., and died July 30, 1902, near Valparaiso at the home of her son, where she was taken about three months ago on account of illness.
She was married to George Maxwell February 14, 1824*, and to this union were born five children, three sosn and two daughters. One son, Will, survives the mother. The body was brought to Hebron for interment August 1st and a large crowd gathered at their home on South Main street to pay their last respects to one who has so quietly walked among us for a number of years. "She hath done what she could" was the appropriate text used by Rev. J.F. Findley in his remarks, and those who knew her best know how applicable the words were to her character. She became a member of the Christian church in 1870 and her faith in Christ has steadily grown since then.
The sympathy of the community is with her husband, the faithful companion of her earthly life. May God comfort and protect him the rest of his journey through life and permit him to meet with his loved ones gone before in a home where there is no more parting.
