Margaret Burke Bennett (1868-1917)

Margaret Burke Bennett (1868-1917)
(Mrs. Ambrose Bennett)

The following article was found in the March 22, 1917, Lowell Tribune on page 10, column 4:

    Obituary

Mrs. Margaret (Burke) Bennet was born in George Town, Ohio, October 20, 1868, and departed this life March 20, 1917, age 47 years and 5 months.

She was united in marriage to Ambrose Bennet October 18, 1893, at Tipton, Ind. To this union five children were born, three of whom survive her, Paul and Marie, at home, and Mrs. Emery Haskell, of Shelby.

Mrs. Bennet was a true and faithful member and worker of the St. Edward's church at Lowell until three years ago, when her health began to fail her. She has been a very patient sufferer during her illness, and not being able to attend church very often, but was always faithful and true to her God and religion. She has been a true wife and a kind and loving mother. To know her was to love her, and with her kind and patient ways she made friends wherever she went. All that medical aid and a kind, loving husband and friends could do was done for her, but of no avail. The death angel called her and she was ready and waiting to go, after her long, suffering here on earth.

She leaves to mourn her loss, a loving husband; three children, Paul, Marie and Mrs. Ethel Haskell; two grandchildren, Mildred and Helen; three sisters, Mrs. Herbert Whaling and Mrs. Katherine Prahler, of Indianapolis; Mrs. Joe Knaube, of North Vernon, Ind.; three brothers, Edward, James and John, of North Vernon, Ind.; and a large circle of other relatives and friends.

Undertaker John Castle prepared the body for burial and it was shipped to North Vernon, her old home, for burial.

The services were held in the St. Ann's church, and a very true and impressive sermon was preached to a large circle of old friends and relatives.

The departed one was laid to rest in the St. Ann's cemetery near her two babes.

NOTE -- This article lists the last name as "Bennet," but it was actually spelled "Bennett." When Ambrose Bennett died in 1947, it listed Margaret Burke Bennett's death date as May 16, 1916, which is obviously a mistake since this obituary came from a 1917 newspaper. Their marriage date is also in question, since this article lists it as Oct. 18, 1893, but Mr. Bennett's obituary listed it as 1890.
