A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    Lowell Firemen Revive man Buried Alive Thursday

    Marlin Hendrickson of Cedar Lake, employee of B.J. Seramur, Lowell plumbing contractor, narrowly escaped death last Thursday afternoon when he was buried under six feet of clay in a tile ditch cave-in. The earth caved in on him when he was laying sewer tile in a 13-foot ditch near the Walter Powell home on East Oakley Avenue.

    Mrs. Powell summoned Lowell firemen as Don Seramur, young brother of B.J., worked frantically to uncover him with a trench-digging machine. Firemen, too, worked with shovels and uncovered Hendricks just as he was down to his last breath. Firemen administered oxygen and revived the exhausted victim and he was rushed via ambulance to Gary Mercy hospital. He was released Friday night.

    Mrs. Powell, the Hendricksons and Seramurs are grateful to Lowell firemen for their prompt response and life-saving help.
