The following January 1, 1920, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 4:
- Martha Alice daughter of Obadiah and Julia Taylor was born at Creston August 9, 1870, and passed away at her home in Hammond at 2:30 P.M. January 24, 1920, aged 49 years, 5 months, and 15 days.
On October 26, 1886, she was untied in marriage to Marcus A. Palmer, who is left to mourn her. For most of their married life they made their home in Hammond. God gave to them two sons, Claude D. and Clare W., both of whom with their families live in that city.
When Martha Alice was a small child she gave her heart to the Savior and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which she has been a life long member. During the past twenty years she has been in feeble health, though rarely confined to her bed by sickness, she cared for her home and, whenever able, attended the services of her church.
On Friday, January 16, she was attacked by what was deemed to be a mild case of influenza. Her system reduced by her long years of invalidism, was not able to throw off the disease, and in less than a week from the time of her attack, pleural pneumonia developed and she soon passed away.
Of immediate relatives, she leaves her husband, two sons, Claude D. and Clare W., and grand-son, Robert, of Hammond, and three sisters, Mrs. M.A. Nichols of Lowell, Mrs. C.N. Barber of Creston, and Mrs. Lucy Witter, of Hammond, and a great number of distant relatives and true friends. Hammond is much poorer for her loss. She died as she lived, strong in the faith of Jesus Christ.
Funeral services were held at the residence in Hammond, Tuesday, January 27. Interment in the Hammond cemetery.
