Death of Mrs. S. Hatton.
Momence, (Ill.) Press-Reporter.Mrs. Sylvester Hatton died at her home near Monticello, Ind., Sunday morning, April 19, at 7:30 o'clock after a brief illness. About a year ago Mrs. Hatton suffered a stroke of paralysis which left her in a weakened condition. A few days before her death she contracted a severe cold, which together with her infirmity caused death.
Her maiden name was Martha A.* Allhands, and she was born in Montgomery county, Ind., November 29, 1837, being 65 years, 4 months and 20 days old. On October 7, 1858, she was united in marriage to Sylvester Hatton, and to them ten children were born. Two of these died in infancy, the remaining ones being Mrs. John Dowsey who resides near Monticello, Mrs. George Chappell of Yellowhead township, Frank Hatton of Lowell, Ind., Ernest, Merritt, George, Esther and Laura who live at home with their father.
For many years Mr. and Mrs. Hatton lived in Yellowhead township where they resided until about three years ago when they moved to Monticello. During their long residence in this vicinity they were held in the highest esteem by their many neighbors.
The funeral services were held at the residence and the remains were brought to this city Tuesday noon for burial in the Six Mile Grove cemetery. The pallbearers were members of the old 76th regiment, comrades of Mr. Hatton. Deceased became member of the Christian church at Sherburnville in 1864, holding membership in that denomination all those years. The bereaved family have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends. The family desires through this paper to extend their thanks to those who assisted at the burial of the dearly beloved wife and mother. Besides her immediate family she leaves two sisters to mourn her.
