- Melvin Strickhorn, Jr., spent Monday in Chicago for physical examination, following his enlistment in the Navy. He had already passed his preliminary examination.

- Melvin Strickhorn, Jr., who recently enlisted in the Navy, is now stationed at Great Lakes, where he will remain for a six week period.
The following information was found in a March 29, 1951, Lowell Tribune article on page 3, column 1:
- Another serviceman spending the holiday with his parents, was Melvin Strickhorn, Jr. He has now returned to Great Lakes, where he is stationed.
This May 10, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found page 3, column 2:
- Melvin Strickhorn, Jr., has completed his ten day furlough, following the termination of his advanced training at Great Lakes, and has now reported for duty at Bremerton, Washington.
The following November 15, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 2:
- Melvin Strickhorn, Jr., is now stationed in Yosuka, Japan. Melvin, who has been in the navy for a year serves in inter-communications work aboard the USS Badoeng Strait.
The following March 20, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 3, column 3:
- Having completed his boot training at Great Lakes, John D. Strickhorn is spending a two-week furlough with his parents, the Melvin Strickhorns of Shelby. He will then go to Jacksonville, Fla., where he will receive further training in the Naval Air Force. The Strickhorns also have another son in the navy, Melvin Jr., who has just returned to San Diego, Calif., following service in Japan since last October.
This July 3, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 6, column 1:
- After spending the past month with his parents in Shelby, Melvin Strickhorn, Jr., has now returned to the Naval base at San Diego, Calif., where he is stationed. Home for the weekend to see his brother was John D. Strickhorn, who is also in the Navy. Recently stationed at Jacksonville, Fla., John D. is now receiving further electronics training at Memphis, Tenn.
