Promoted to Technician 4th Grade
Word received by us from the Commanding officer at Camp Santa Anita, Calif., says that Cpl. Merritt D. Metz, Jr., has been promoted to the rank of Technician 4th grade.The following article was found in the April 8, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 2, column 2:
- T/S Merritt Metz, Jr., is home from Camp Santa Anita, Calif., enjoying a 15-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Metz, Sr., and his brothers. He informs us that the camp is located at the famed Santa Anita race track and the grand track is used as general headquarters. Merritt is in the ordnance department and at the present time is an instructor.
This March 16, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
- Sgt. Merritt Metz, Jr., who has been stationed at Santa Anita, Calif. is here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merrit D. Metz, and his brother, Wayne. He is enroute to Aberdeen, Md., where he will be stationed for some time.
The following June 29, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
- Pvt. Warren W. Metz has been transferred to Camp Miles Standish, Mass. Recently Warren and his brother, O/C Merritt D. Metz, stationed at Aberdeen, MI., spent a week-end together in New York City.
The following August 10, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:
Returns to Camp
Sgt. Merritt D. Metz, Jr., has returned to his post at Aberdeen, Md., after spending a two weeks leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Metz, Sr.The following August 17, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 2:
A Correction
Due to a misunderstanding by us last week, we mentioned that Sgt. Merritt Metz, Jr., had been here visiting his parents. Merritt, however, is now a Lieutenant, having received his commission July 22nd.This Lowell Tribune article was found in the March 8, 1945, issue (page 2, column 1):
- Sgt. Merritt D. Metz, Jr., is home on furlough from Rochester, New York, visiting his parents, west of town.
This March 15, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- In last week's soldier news, we inadvertantly stated that Sgt. Merritt Metz, Jr., was here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Metz, Sr., when it should have read Lt. Metz, as he was commissioned at Aberdeen, Maryland, last summer.
A July 19, 1945, Lowell Tribune article (page 2, column 1) mentions that Lt. Merritt D. Metz, Jr., was on furlough from Rochester, N.Y..
