The following April 11, 1968, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 7, column 2:
    Radioman Seaman Micahel D. Burke, USN, son of Mr. Lawrence J. Burke of Hayden Acres, Lowell, Ind., is participating in operation "Deep Freeze '68," in the Antarctic as a member of Detachment "ALFA," Antartic Support Activities.

    The operation is the U.S. Navy's logistic support effort for U.S. scientific programs in Antarctica.

    He will help re-supply and operate U.S. bases through the winter months. This will be done in freezing temperatures, total darkness, and except for communications, total isolation.
