The following information comes from the Surprise family CD-Rom created by Janet Umlauf:
    Mildred M. SURPRISE was born on 7 Nov 1899 in Lowell, IN. She died about 1957* in Tampa, FL. Records in Grandma Marian’s possession. Surprise Family History compiled by Lucille Surprise. Marian Surprise said she attended Valparaiso Univ. and became a teacher for a while. She taught grade school just outside of Lowell (poss. Orchard Grove*). They moved to FLA. where her husband was a police officer. He was killed in a car accident and then she became a juvenile officer on the police force. Ernest King was his name and he was killed in an auto accident around Christmas time. She had 4 small children at the time.
* NOTES
-- Although the above information suggests she died around 1957, Mrs. King was listed as a survivor in her father's 1959 obituary.
-- Mildred Surprise was listed as an Orchard Grove teacher in a "Pioneer History" newspaper article.
