    MRS. W.J. BURNELL HONORED WITH BIRTHDAY PARTY

    Last Sunday the Charles Algers of Belshaw, entertained in honor of the birthday of her mother, Mrs. W.J. Burnell. Guests were Cpl. Murland Bright, Mrs. Joyce Alger and daughter Judy, of Gary, and Miss Audrey Alger of Maywood.
    Cpl Bright, a coast artilleryman, returned to his post in Alaska toady.

The following article from an unidentified newspaper was found in Town Historian Richard Schmal's obituary collection:
    Murland E. Bright, age 69, of Gary, formerly a longtime resident of Lowell, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1990, at the Methodist Hospital, Southlake Campus, Merrillville. He is survived by: his wife, Gloria Bright; four sons, Gregory (Carol) Bright of Denver, Colorado, Jeffrey (Mary-Kate) Bright of Hobart, Mitchell (Diane) Bright of Gary and Daniel (Kristine) Bright of Sacramento, California; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Raymond (Edna) Bright of Sacramento. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 19 at Stilinovich and Wiatrolik Funeral Home, Merrillville, with Very Reverend F. Gregory Rogers officiating. Interment followed at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. A retired employee of Illinois Bell Telephone Co., Murland Bright was a member of the N.I.H.P.A.
