The following article, copied from the Spalding Scrapbook, was found in the clipping files at Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 4, page 78):

    Obituary

    Nancy Jane Hayden was born in Pennsylvania April 27, 1823. When a small child she came with her parents, Nehemiah and Harriet Hayden, to Knox county, Ohio, where she spent her early childhood. In 1836 she came with her parents to Lake county, Indiana. They were among the first pioneer settlers of this county.

    In 1841 she was united in marriage to Reason C. Kile. To this union were born five children, three of whom are living, viz: Nancy, wife of James Kelsey, Lowell, Ind.; Mary, wife of George VanAlstine, Monticello, Indiana; and Flora, wife of William Hatton, of California.
