Nannie Rockwood Wason Ames (1851-1891)

Nannie Rockwood Wason Ames (1851-1891)
(Mrs. Edward Payson Ames)

A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
Mrs. Nannie R. (Wasson) Ames was born in Switzerland County, Indiana, June 9, 1851, and died at her home in Crown Point, of lung fever, January 3, 1891, at the age of 39 years, 7 months, and 24 days. She was married to Edward P. Ames, December 4, 1875. To this union three children, all boys, have been born.

Mrs. Ames was a highly cultivated lady, being a graduate of the Oxford (Ohio) College. In the cause of Christianity she was a zealous worker, being a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand in anything the object of which was to advance and make better the condition of the community where she lived. She will be sadly missed by her friends and neighbors, but O! how much more by her bereaved husband and three children, aged parents, brother and sister.

Her funeral which was largely attended, took place at the family residence at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Rev. W.W.A. Luckey, officiating.

The bereaved family and friends have the sympathy of this entire community. Her mortal remains were laid away in the Crown Point Cemetery there to remain until the morning of the great resurrection, when she will come forth in all the newness of a glorious immortal life, to greet and be greeted by those she has left behind.
