Nellie Geysen (1838-1934)

Nellie Geysen (1838-1934)

The following May 24, 1934, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 6, column 5:
Mrs. Nellie Geysen was born in Antwerp, Belgium, February 16, 1838, and passed away at the home of her daughter in Thayer, May 16, 1934, at the age of 96 years and 3 months and two days*. She came to America in 1881. Her husband preceded her in death in August 1912. She was a woman who was very highly esteemed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Thayer at 1 p.m. Monday and were conducted by Mrs. Roland Shafer, pastor of the church. Interment was made in the Rose Lawn cemetery in charge of Sheets & Son.

She is survived by three children -- Louise McKee, Josephine DeFries and Joseph DerKinderen; also, two grand children, Louise Laurer and Jenny DeFries.

* NOTE -- Although this article gives Mrs. Geysen's birth and death dates as Feb. 16, 1838, through May 16, 1934, it states that her life span ran 96 years, 3 months and 2 days, which seems wrong by a day or two.
