The following August 23, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:

    Telephones Mother

    Mrs. Esther Blanchard received a phone call from her son, Norbert, A.S., last Thursday. Norb said he was getting along fine and was in Brooklyn at that time, getting ready to leave for sea duty.

A September 6, 1945, Lowell Tribune article on page 2, column 1, listed Apprentice Seaman Norbert Blanchard as home on furlough from Samson, N.Y. after completing boot training.


The following September 13, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:

    Return to New York

    Norbert Blanchard, son of Mrs. Esther Blanchard and Eddie Schultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louie Schultz, east of Cedar Lake, both in the Merchant Marines, left Monday for New York, from where they will ship out soon. Home on leave together, the boys are hoping to be on the same ship when they sail.
