OSCAR BROOKS PASSES AWAY
Oscar Brooks, who has been in poor health for some time, passed away bat the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Cavinder, Monday morning. Funeral services were held at the home yesterday. Obituary next week.This April 21, 1927, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 5, column 3:
- Card of Thanks: We desire to extend our sincere thanks to the neighbors and friends who showed our dear father, Oscar Brooks, so many kindnesses during his long sickness, and offered such kind words of consolation when death relieved him of his suffering. We shall always remember them. Signed: His Children.
Oscar Brooks' obituary also appeared on page 5 (column 4) of the same issue of the paper:
- Oscar Brooks, oldest child of Johnathan G. and Mary S. Brooks, was born at Hebron, Ind., August 30, 1860, and passed from this life April 11, 1927.
Mr. Brooks lived in Kansas for a period of time and while there met Mary Susan Smith who became his wife May 19, 1882. To this union were born Earl, who died in infancy, March 21, 1893; Verna Lois Cavender, Nellie M. Stoddard, Helen M. Hayden, and a baby daughter, who died March 22, 1907.
He leaves to mourn his loss, three daughters, ten grand children, and two sisters, Eva May Brooks, of Boulder, Colorado, and Amy Grace of Gary, Ind.
The deceased was a faithful member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, transferring his membership from Crown Point lodge to Lowell Lodge No. 245 in 1898.
Mr. and Mrs. Brooks lived on a farm near Crown Point until 1898; after that the home was near or in Lowell until the death of Mrs. Brooks in 1921.
Since that time he has made his home with his daughter Verna Lois, and her husband F.C. Cavender.
Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred C. Cavender, last Wednesday, April 13, at 2 p.m. Rev. E.A. Dougherty, pastor of the Lowell M.E. church, had charge of the service. Interment was made in Lowell cemetery in charge of Weaver and Son. The following acted as pall bearers: Ed Yates, Albert Vandercar, P.M. McNay, Joe Dinwiddie, Silas Hogan, Richard Carter.
