Patty Petrie joins WAVES
The family members of Mrs. Ruby Petrie of Jeffersonville, received the news last week that Mrs. Petrie's daughter, Miss Patty had gone to Hunter College April 5th with sixty WAVES for their six weeks basic training.The following December 14, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5 column 3:
- Mr. and Mrs. Denzil Armstrong and Mrs. Forrest Smith visited their niece, WAVE Patricia Petrie, who is a patient at Great Lakes hospital. She is slowly recovering from a very serious illness with spinal meningitis, and is now able to be up a short time each day.
The following December 28, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- WAVE Patricia Petrie, who has been a spinal meningitis patient at Great Lakes hospital the past several weeks, has completely recovered and was here last Thursday visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Hayhurst, her aunts, Mrs. Denzil Armstrong, Mrs. E.J. Brown, and Mrs. Evelyn Fitch, and uncle, Kitchell Hayhurst, and families. On Friday she went to her home at Jeffersonville to spend the holidays with her mother and sister. She will return to her duties after the holidays.
This August 2, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
- Mr. and Mrs. A. Dumkin of Faragut, Idaho, visited her aunt, Mrs. Denzil Armstrong and family, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Hayhurst, and other relatives here a short time Friday before going to Jeffersonville, to visit her mother, Mrs. Harry Petrie. Mrs. Dumkin, the former Patricia Petrie, was a member of the WAVES before her marriage last week.
