The following April 12, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, columns 2-3:
    Pfc. Paul Mathies, whose mother lives at Cedar Lake, was wounded in action March 21st on the German front. His wife lives in Hammond. An infantryman, Pfc. Mathies entered the service in August, 1944, and received training at Aberdeen, Md. and Camp Gorden, Ga. He was sent overseas in February of this year. Prior to entering the service, he was employed at Inland Steel Co., in East Chicago.
