Rev. Vandre, Former Lowell Pastor, Dies
Rev. Walter Vandre, first resident pastor of the Lowell Lutheran church, died at the Lutheran hospital in Ft. Wayne, Monday.Rev. Vandre had been in attendance at a conference in that city when he became ill and submitted to surgery for the removal of kidney stones. His operation was wholly successful but he later succumbed to a heart attack.
Pastor of the Lutheran Church at Par, Ind., Rev. Vandre served the Lowell church from 1926 until 1941.
Funeral services were held at eleven o'clock, Wednesday morning, July 2, in the Lutheran church at Parr, with Pastor Paul Goltermann of Hammond conducting altar services and Dr. Walter Lichtsinn, also of Hammond, giving the memorial message. Interment was in the Concordia cemetery in Fort Wayne.
Rev. Vandre is survived by his wife and children, Robert of Dallas, Texas, Kenneth who is serving in Germany with the armed forces, Mrs. Helen Schakel of Anderson, Mrs. Leona Kirkoff of Kokomo, and Miss Norma of Parr.
