    Lowell Seaman Aboard Pacific Patrol Craft

    Richard D. Stephan, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard P. Stephan of Washington Street, Lowell, Ind., is one of a crew of 69 officers and men aboard the patrol craft USS 572, a unit of the Atlantic Fleet Service Force.

    Used primarily in patrol and coastal convoy work, the highly maneuverable 572, a "hunter-killer" type ship, carries submarine detection apparatus, used in locating the undersea craft. The 572 is armed to destroy the submarines after they have been discovered
