Family members and friends of Bob Grayson, who left Friday for army service, gathered Thursday evening at Phil Schmidt's restaurant in Hammond for a farewell dinner. In the group with Bob were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Pvt. Robert C. Grayson, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Grayson, Crown Point, this week started his recruit drill in the basic training center at Keesler Field, Miss., a unit of the army air forces technical training command. Reporting from the Ft. Thomas, Ky. reception center, Pvt. Grayson will undergo four weeks of orientation, marching, gas mask and bayonet drill, target practice and physical training. Robert Grayson Promoted
A press release from the Far East Air Forces, Southwest Pacific, says that Robert Grayson has been promoted to First Lieutenant. Bob is the son of the C.A. Graysons, formerly of Lowell, now residing at Crown Point. He serves with the 374th troop carrier group, the oldest and most decorated troop carrier group in the Pacific theatre.Lt. Bob has 500 hours amassed flying time carrying troops and supplies to the forward battle areas and has earned the right to wear the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon and Philippines liberation ribbon with battle stars for the New Guinea, southern Philippines and northern Luzon campaigns. In addition he can wear the coveted distinguished unit citation ribbon with cluster.
